SHOULD YOU TRAIN YOUNG CHILDREN TO SING??
There has always been much debate over whether you should train young children to sing, there are benefits to learning young and risks to expecting, or teaching, a child to sing like an adult. Sorry to tell you that those cute young kids on tv talent shows, who open their mouths and sing like an adult, aren't something we want our students to aspire to. Even a well trained child, should always sound like a child!
Unfortunately there are many untrained and/or inexperienced teachers, teaching "musical theatre", when they are really dance or drama teachers, without real knowledge of safe singing techniques for children, giving them "popular" songs that they are happy to sing, but that are inappropriate the to age and range of their voices and just encouraging them to sing louder.
Please do your research as you hopefully would when looking for a ballet teacher, etc.
Here are a few articles and snippets, that support our thoughts on the subject.....written by those more eloquent than I!
